In an Emergency
If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911. If you have an orthodontic emergency, call our office number: 918-249-1818. During office hours, we will answer the phone. After office hours, you will be directed to another number to reach Dr. Duffy directly.
During office hours, call us as soon as possible if you break or loosen any of your brackets or appliances. This allows us to make time to see you. Even if you have a regular appointment already scheduled, call us anyway. A bracket may need to be re-bonded before your next visit.
What is an orthodontic emergency?
If you have an injury to your mouth from a sports accident, bicycle crash or something of that nature, or if your appliance is broken or loose, call the office at 918-249-1818 to get the emergency number to contact Dr. Duffy directly.
Broken/Loose Brackets: You may have a situation that requires cutting a wire or sliding a bracket off a wire at night or over the weekend. If this happens, you may use fingernail clippers that have been washed and disinfected in alcohol. Please call our office the next business day so that we can schedule an appointment for you.
Wire Irritations: Sometimes discomfort caused by a wire on your braces can be resolved by moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of cotton or wax. If the wire is painful, you can cut it with nail clippers that have been washed and disinfected in alcohol. If you cannot resolve the wire irritation, call our office the next business day for an appointment.
Wire Movement: Sometimes the arch wire in your braces shifts, creating discomfort. You can move this wire by taking clean tweezers and sliding the wire back into place, centering the black spot on your wire between your two front teeth.
